I began learning Burmese/Myanmar language while volunteering with refugees, migrants, and exiles in Thailand in 2001. I continued my studies at Cornell University and conducted much of my doctoral research in Burmese. Although I am not bilingual, I can interpret from spoken Burmese to English in many situations. I have been interpreting for public schools in Columbia, MO since 2012; this work connects to my scholarly interests in the integration of refugees from Burma/Myanmar in US schools.
